**HEAD GUIDE**
Jamie’s Whaling Station Head Guide is responsible for conducting wildlife tours for our guests as well leading the on-water team of skippers and naturalists in the day-to-day running of operations. Assisting in making weather decisions, planning and facilitating on-going staff training, as well as taking responsibility for the up-keep and maintenance of resources and safety gear.

**Job Definition**: Manages the on-water team, taking a lead in training and assisting with smooth operational delivery.
**Directly supervises**: skippers and deck-hands
**Assigned area of work**: Clayoquot & Barkley as required
**Hours of operation**: Seasonal
**Pay Structure: $30-$35 per hour**
**Authority**: Decision making for all on-water related queries.
**Work performed**: 1) Hiring of on-water staff (in conjunction with GM) and on-boarding of new staff
2) Keeping track of current staff certifications and arranging reminders and renewals. Helping staff to identify and realise avenues of career progression in the form of mentorship and training.
3) provide leadership (alongside GM), and executive decision-making in relation to weather safety decisions. Assist staff with route planning and guest communication to ensure maximum guest comfort, safety and satisfaction.
4) Planning, co-ordinating and facilitating on-going staff training. This will include full safety training days for both small and large vessels, scheduling of safety drills, and evening naturalist-focused training sessions.
5) Inventory on-vessel safety equipment, including zodiac suits and first-aid supplies, flares and life-jackets.
6) Responsible for the creation and maintenance of naturalist resources available to the naturalist team, including materials on display in the office.
7) curating and contributing content for social media. Write educational based blogs for use on the website & social media
8) Develop marketable educational programs for school groups and work with GM to increase our school group business. Develop off-season educational group programs (Bamfield, remote communities, etc.)
9) Liaise with Maintenance team to co-ordinate set-up and take-down of vessels at the beginning and end of each season to ensure proper set-up and storage of naturalist equipment and guest safety and comfort materials.
10) Co-ordinate Liquor inventory for licensed vessels and special events.
11) Run Wildlife Tours in Clayoquot and Barkley as required
