Copernicus Lodge is a not-for-profit, charitable and ethno-specific organization made possible through the efforts of the Polish Canadian community and the vision of Father Michael Smith, OMI. Located in the heart of the Roncesvalles community in west-end Toronto, we are a 228-bed Long Term Care home.

We offer a Canada Summer Job 2024 opportunity with the help of **Government of Canada** for 1 student to join the **Nursing Department for 8 weeks.** Personal Support Worker - Home Support will be responsible for assisting residents of Long Term Care home of Copernicus Lodge. They will work with the Nursing Department on providing resident care.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assist residents with care which includes toileting, washing and dressing, mouth care including cleaning of dentures.
- Empty commodes as necessary and tidy rooms.
- Prepare residents for meals including portering residents to and from the dining room on each resident home area.
- All food / fluid flowsheets for the residents you have assisted in order to ensure accurate information is obtained.
- Toilet and change incontinent residents and those requiring assistance as required by the residents condition / preferences /needs and documented care plan.
- Provide assistance to residents to prepare for and attend all activities and religious programs of their choice.
- Serve morning and afternoon snacks and nutritional supplements.
- Wipe cart clean after distribution. Bathe residents as per schedule and check skin, Change bed linen as required.
- Maintain personal care carts in a clean and tidy manner.
- Replenish supplies as necessary for oncoming shifts. Tidy resident closets and drawers as necessary.
- Assist residents who require a rest period in the afternoon to get into bed and get comfortable.

**Qualifications and requirements**:

- **Start date - June 17th, 2024**. Program lengths - 8 weeks. Total hours - 280;
- **Hours of Work - 35 hours/week (excluding 30 min unpaid lunch per day)**:

- Full time student this past year and returning in September - **College/University nursing students who have completed at least 2 years of their program.**:

- Genuine interest to work with the elderly;
- Must be trustworthy, professional, caring and compassionate;
- Computer skills - MS Office and other software experience an asset;
- Customer and resident focused, patient, outgoing and friendly personality;
- Takes initiative, strong communication skills, team player;
- Polish Speaking is a definite asset;
- **Submission of a TB-test and Vulnerable Persons Police Check is required for those over the age of 18 years.**
- **Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;**:

- **Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and**:

- **Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.**
