**Sistering **is a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed.** **Our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do. We operate on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model.

Our programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, on-site Medical Clinic, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise. During COVID our 24/7 Drop In runs as one of the City Respite Centres, providing essential services.

Reporting to the Peer and Harm Supervisor, the Peer Worker will be responsible for ensuring that the principles of Harm Reduction are fully integrated using Sistering’s policies and practices.

The Peer Worker will work with community members to ensure the effective delivery of service from a client-centered, trauma informed, harm reduction, anti-oppressive perspective. This includes ensuring effectively responding to high risk and at risk drug users through advocacy and onsite harm reduction practice. Furthermore, it is imperative to see each person as a unique individual; have a willingness to share their own recovery experience and an ability to engage people based in their level of receptivity and individual needs.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Program:_
- Provide information and education on safe drug use practices from a harm reduction perspective
- Participate in regular supervisions with TUHF Project leader
- Participate in Harm Reduction workshops and programs with members of the community
- Prepare Kits in Kit Making sessions with supervision
- Promote the Harm Reduction program to the community to raise awareness
- Administrative:_
- Assist in the development and implementation of program goals
- Assist in the evaluation of outreach and activities
- Data collection and input (training provided)
- Responsible for weekly submissions of their own work timesheets
- Collect used needles and stems and prepare kit materials
- Maintain a clean and organized outreach supply, including updating information and brochures, stocking of outreach bags, and cleaning and stocking of supply room, etc.
- Adhere to all Sistering policies, procedures and confidentiality

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Mandatory:_
- Personal experience and/or knowledge of drug use, mental health, and homelessness
- Willingness to utilize knowledge of lived experience to connect with community
- Have an understanding of and commitment to harm reduction principles and practices
- Have knowledge of concerns and challenges that may exist in accessing harm reduction/health services in supportive housing.
- Knowledge of the community and social responses to substance use
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts, and confidence in asserting and maintaining strong boundaries
- Knowledge of street drugs and high risk lifestyles
- Responsible, reliable and punctual
- Group facilitation skills
- Can work independently with little supervision

- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Good people skills - open, non-judgmental, and willing to learn
- Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals
- Self-identify s female or trans folks
- Self-identify as a female or trans folks
- Experience intervening in overdoses and/or training, including Naloxone administration, considered an asset
- Intermediate computer and documentation skills specifically with Excel and Word an asset

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations. Sistering is a pet friendly facility and as such, employees can expect to be in the proximity of animals.
