This position provides the unique opportunity to rotate throughout the day between the Tram Car Operator, Ticket Checker and the General Duties/Guest Relations positions. All positions have their own unique responsibilities throughout the day.

Day in the life

A Day in the Life of a Tram Guide

It's an exciting morning as the day begins as you arrive on our staff shuttle to the lower station of the Jasper SkyTram. As a Tram guide, you are responsible to work with your Lift Operations team on setting up the lower/upper station after grabbing your tram key and radio from the staff room. After completing your radio checks and lower station checks you head up on your first "test flight" of the day, bringing the staff and any contractors to the top of the mountain for the day before we open for operation. Once all our of morning safety checks have been completed we are ready to fly public to Whistlers Mountain to enjoy the amazing views

Being apart of the Lift Operations team, you have a direct effect on every experience had with our guests. You have the opportunity to take our passengers up the mountain and share your love for the surrounding park. Talking about the tram itself, mentioning wildlife, pointing out the best spots to visit while in Jasper, touching on historical facts of the area, and making the experience of going to the top of a mountain in a national park, a little more special for all of our guests. We allow creative freedom to our tram guides, meaning every tram ride speech can be unique based on the guests you have riding with you and based on the weather conditions at the moment in time.

As the day progresses, the 4 tram guides will rotate between Ticket Checker, General Duties and being a Tram Guide every hour. This rotation allows the team to do different tasks throughout the day and keep the positions fresh and unique.

The Ticket Checker, with the help of the Lower Station Shift Leader work together to ready the next group of guests for the next tram “flight” to depart. Timing and keeping an eye of the flight schedule is key in this position as we run trams during peak season every 9 minutes. Unloading and loading guests efficiently is key to keeping to the flight schedule.

The General Duties position will be utilized all around the property throughout the day based on weather conditions and how busy the day is. On busy days this person will be positioned wherever an extra set of hands is needed, whether that’s at the Lower Station or the Upper Station. Property cleaning is also a major requirement of this position, so with the help of the Shift Leaders they team up to make sure washrooms, garbage and the property cleanliness is spot on for our guests.

In peak season you’ll work a combination of morning and afternoon shifts to make up your 5 days of work. Mid afternoon we have a 1-hour crossover where the AM and PM shifts work together to do a full property tidy up, and at the same time swap out the AM and PM staff in the 4 positions and continue to running smoothly and efficiently.

At the end of the day, Lift Operations have the responsibility to make sure water tanks are topped up at the Upper Station, report and document all utilities, all cleaning and garbage is completed across the property and that all guests have been downloaded by the end of the night. At the end of your shift you return your radio to the charger, hang up the tram key and clock out, completing a successful day

It goes a long way to have passion for hiking, the outdoors, and adventure in general. When you are excited about what you are talking about it will only excite and inspire your passengers on the journey up the mountain. If you come to work excited to inform, with the expectation of having the best view in Jasper everyday, then this would be a good job for you. Staying informed, working within a team or on your own, this will be a summer job we think anyone would enjoy.
