**ABOUT THE ROLE**
Reporting to the Program Director, or their designate, the Design Technician - Cable Design will be responsible for the provisioning of outside plant access network facilities, perform site visits, conducts field work and prepares detailed engineering design.
**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
- Analyze data to ensure sufficient facilities are provided to meet network growth and the most effective solution to mitigate areas of conflict triggered by Bell Canada.
- Support survey technician field exercises with prompt response to scoping questions.
- Support CAD technicians in preliminary design drawing development with prompt response to scoping and preliminary design questions.
- Complete, or lead, review, and validate detailed technical work plans based on Bell, industry and government standards.
- Negotiate and obtain right-of-way authorizations to install, maintain equipment on, or private property.
- Complete AutoCAD drawings and other technical document updates.
- Prepare and compile final drawings and reports for stamping engineers (if required).
- Provide sufficient detail on the work plan such that budgetary values can be established by the customer for work to be completed.
- Identify obstacles and identify to the customer in a timely manner.
- Perform site visits as required to evaluate conditions to complete field work.
- Support UTS Director and Managers in providing technical response to client and regulating authority questions.
- Post-secondary education in civil or electrical engineering or equivalent relevant work experience in a service business.
- Intermediate working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- OACETT or PEO member in good standing preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of telecommunication design experience.
- Experience in underground telecommunication engineering and design and municipal consent permitting an asset.

- Understanding of safety codes ESA 22/04 and CSA 22.3 No. 1-20.
- Willingness to learn and train those in need.
