**ABOUT THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER POSITION**

We are seeking a dynamic leader, strategic thinker, and operational specialist with accounting and or finance experience to join the Northlands Management Team.

The Northlands Accounting Manager will be a motivated self-starter who is looking to grow, develop, and further their career all while being emersed in the natural beauty of northern Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Operations, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the Northlands College accounting department. The portfolio is broad and diverse, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Accounting, Purchasing, and Inventory. The Accounting Manager also serves as the internal auditor for Northlands.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Accounting Manager has accountabilities in five broad areas, including:
**1. Financial Services**

1.1. Coordinate the workflow of the accounting unit

1.2. Administer an investment program for surplus monies consistent with government regulations for Regional Colleges

1.3. Manage the College’s cashflow, ensuring cash requirements are coordinated with revenues/expenditures, while surplus monies are invested

1.4. Review accounting systems regularly to ensure College compliance with established policies, procedures, and funding agreements

1.5. Maintain and operate the computerized accounting system

1.6. Analyze financial data and generate financial reports for various external agencies and/or internal audiences (e.g. federal and provincial governments, funding agencies)

1.7. Analyze new/upgraded accounting software and determine if it would enhance the College accounting system

1.8. Identify procedural problems and champion solutions

**2. Human Resource Management**

2.1. Responsible for ensuring the accounting department meets all operational and strategic goals and objectives.

2.2. Responsible for overseeing and directing the work of staff within the accounting department, including ongoing recruitment, training, coaching, and development activities

2.3. Develop and ensure the implementation of efficient and effective office procedures, staff configurations, and associated work assignments

2.4. Responsible for exercising independent authority to respond to initial grievances and union filings

**3. Administrative Services**

3.1. Coordinate the timely production of monthly and quarterly reports for the Board, Senior Management, and Program Managers

3.2. Develop and ensure the maintenance of an effective, accurate, and current capital inventory system

3.3. Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures related to accounting practices and processes

3.4. Oversee the payroll, purchasing, and accounts receivables/payable systems of the College

**4. Planning**

4.1. Actively participate in and support senior management in the development of an overall strategic plan for the College

4.2. Assist the Vice President of Finance and Operations in the development of the budget planning processes and best practices

**5. External Relationships**

5.1. Liaise with funding agencies, government departments, suppliers, contractors, RCMP, and consultants on behalf of the College

**DECISION MAKING**

As a member of the Management Team, the Accounting Manager participates in policy development and implements associated administrative procedures. Decisions made within the role have a direct impact on the short
- and medium-term plans of the College. The Accounting Manager has direct influence over the future of the College, staff relations and morale, College initiatives, and the fiscal soundness of the College’s administration.
