**How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team**:
The Program Coordinator, TTP Bird Research Station is responsible for leading and conducting the seasonal ornithological monitoring programs at the Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station. This includes collection, management, analysis and reporting of ornithological data following standard protocols, as well as the scheduling, on-site supervision and technical training of volunteers. In addition, the Program Coordinator, Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station engages with and provides interpretation of monitoring programs to park visitors, school groups and interest groups. This position plays an active role in leading and training volunteers.

This position starts Monday, March 27, 2023 and ends Friday, June 23, 2023. A contract extension, or a renewed contract is possible for the fall migration monitoring period.

**Major Responsibilities**:
**Perform the following tasks under general supervision**:

- Oversee all data collection and submission, including daily census during spring and fall migration, managing data in related software.
- Lead and conduct bird banding during spring and fall migration.
- Deliver ornithological training (bird identification, ageing, sexing, handling, etc.) for Bird Research Station volunteers, ensuring volunteers have the proper skills to conduct ornithological work.
- Coordinate monitoring programs, permits and data with Environment and Climate Change Canada (Bird Banding Office) and United States Geological Survey (USGS).
- Engage the public by interpreting bird banding and monitoring activities for visitors (public, groups, schools) to the lab.
- Write annual report of a technical nature of the annual monitoring program, which includes data analysis.
- Maintain equipment ensuring equipment is in good and safe working order.
- Maintain lab in neat and tidy condition that adheres to health and safety requirements.
- Oversees seasonal volunteers including day to day volunteer activities and related training.

**What will you need to succeed**:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Actively pursing or possess a degree or diploma from a university or college program in the field of biology, environmental studies or related discipline; or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientific Permit to Capture and Band Migratory Birds - Master bander permit holder, sub-permit holder or ability to obtain sub-permit to band passerines and other land birds.
- North American Banding Council at Bander Level certification, Trainer Level certification is considered an asset.
- Active and current First Aid and CPR certificate.

Experience
- Two (2) years experience related to major responsibilities, with a minimum of one (1) year experience leading or mentoring a group of individuals in a similar setting.
- Minimum one (1) year experience at a bird observatory focused on migration monitoring.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Ability to identify all species of birds by song, call and plumage that could be found in the TRCA Region.
- Demonstrated excellent bird handling skills, including mist netting and banding.
- Advanced bird ageing and sexing skills.
- Strong data collection ability with attention to detail and data management.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and public engagement abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian Migration Monitoring Network protocols and other standardized data collection protocols.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and deliver information to both small and large audiences.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Proficiency in MS Office and related software packages.
- Ability to conduct field work during the early morning, evening and/or weekends and during inclement weather.
- Willingness to share knowledge and mentor others.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
