**Position Title**: Head of Sustainability and Fair Treatment of Clients

**Reports To**: SVP Strategy & CMO

**Department**: Corporate, Strategy and Marketing

**Term**: Permanent Full-Time

**Work Arrangements**: We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately September 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.

**The Opportunity**: Equitable Life of Canada is seeking a Head of Sustainability and Fair Treatment of Clients to join our Corporate Strategy and Marketing
This role will provide leadership and direction to Equitable Life’s sustainability efforts. With its 100+ year history, Equitable Life has weathered business cycles and financial challenges and always met all its obligations due to a disciplined risk management and sustained profitability culture.

**What you will be doing**:

- Engage with all areas of the company, and the actions, behaviours and decisions transpiring within, through a sustainability lens. This includes responsibility for leading efforts to develop appropriate guidelines, policies, and practices for the Company in all areas that impact enterprise sustainability - from financial discipline and product design/pricing to business continuity/data security and regulatory change, all within the context of sustainable and equitable stakeholder balancing.
- Own the researching, developing, and quarterbacking (including implementation) of Socially driven initiatives within our focus to embrace the “Social” in ESG.
- Direct accountability for proposing ideas, gaining support, setting the policies and practices, and have shared responsibility for implementation across the company in the across all levels of the organization
- Make recommendations and assist with the functional direction of important strategic programs
- Participate with peers within the organization to make decisions and take actions with joint responsibility and accountability for various project streams within the program.
- Prioritize and coordinate overlapping project work streams with other strategic initiatives.

**What you will bring**:

- Seasoned financial services experience with a strong understanding of life insurance regulations, operations, distribution, compliance, products, and marketing across various lines of business
- Substantial depth of understanding with respect to operations, distribution, product and marketing, sustainability, and compliance across various life insurance lines of business.
- Solid understanding of the lifecycle of various insurance industry products and ownership benefits, and their evolution over time - both in the past as well as likely in the future - is critical to role success. Having that knowledge gained in a mutual company environment would be preferred.
- Prior experience in translating principle-based regulations into practical, reasonable, and simple executable action plans is required.
- Prior experience and passion around authoring position papers and overseeing regulatory inspired implementation across diverse businesses and functional areas would be an asset.
- Ability to proactively develop and author policies and practices that can be applied in a variety of different areas at the Company.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade, motivate, lead, and accomplish work goals through others.
- Analytical, interpretative, evaluative and/or constructive thinking skills to resolve variable situations.
- Knowledge and experience to identify and resolve the complex array of issues that arise in the corporate business context, and the relationship skills to manage relationships in the context of multiple competing priorities.
- Strong verbal/written skills so business areas will understand requirements and impact.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail to ensure that implementation occurs efficiently and effectively.
- Leadership skills to galvanize support within multiple business areas outside of the incumbent’s reporting structure.
- Industry awareness and contacts working within similar roles will help.
- Attending regulatory or industry forums around the FTC area would be warranted.
