**About the Role**
**Key Responsibilities**
- Personal Care: Assist the patient with daily personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Mobility Assistance: Support the patient in moving safely around their home, including transfers from bed to wheelchair, and help with positioning in bed.
- Medication Management: Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and keep detailed records of medication schedules.
- Nutrition Support: Prepare meals according to dietary restrictions, assist with feeding as needed, and ensure the patient maintains adequate nutrition and hydration.
- Respiratory Care: Provide assistance with respiratory equipment, such as ventilators or suction machines, ensuring the patient’s airway is clear and respiratory function is supported.
- Therapeutic Exercises: Assist with prescribed physical therapy exercises to maintain mobility and prevent muscle atrophy.
- Emotional Support: Offer companionship and emotional support, fostering a positive and empathetic environment.
- Communication Assistance: Help the patient with communication, including the use of communication devices if necessary.
- Household Tasks: Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe living environment for the patient.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of care provided, changes in the patient’s condition, and any incidents or concerns.
**Qualifications**
- Certification: Valid PSW certification from a recognized institution.
**Working Conditions**
- The role may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- The PSW may need to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the patient’s needs.
- Exposure to various medical conditions and environments, requiring adherence to infection control protocols.
**Application Process**
- Experience: Previous experience in caring for patients with ALS or other neurodegenerative diseases is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to perform physical tasks, and proficiency in using medical equipment related to ALS care.
- Compassion: A compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
- Reliability: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow care plans and medical instructions accurately.
- First Aid/CPR Certification: Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 - 40 per week
