Estimated number of hours per week, including authorized travel**:35-48 hours**

**Salary**:$20-$24.50 per hourcommensurate on experience.

Relocation or accommodation costs will not be reimbursed for primary job duties.

**Key Job Requirements**:

- A valid driver's licence, and
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.

**Your Contribution to NRSI**

NRSI is looking forlocally-situated, motivated and independent individuals to conduct monitoring activities in the field, primarily biological field monitoring, specifically for birds at bats at a wind energy facility. These positions provide an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data employing a high attention to detail. The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

- Carcass searches around the turbine base, walking transects in order to find bird and/or bat mortalities. Once found, data on the specific mortalities is collected with high attention to detail, and all carcasses are stored by NRSI.
- Trials to determine carcass removal rate by scavengers or other means, by placing carcasses on the ground at the facility, and monitoring over time;
- Trials to determine how many of the carcasses are found by the searcher;
- Relocating turtles and snakes (using a snake hook) off of roads while travelling on the work site.

**Your Education**:

- A post-secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.

**Requirements**:

- Willing & able to work under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on statutory holidays.
- Physically fit in order to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain.
- Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field.
- A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
- Ability to work independently on a daily basis, and cooperatively as part of a field team.
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving in all aspects of work, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
- Committed to continual improvement of technical abilities.

**Assets**:

- Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
- Experience with the use of a handheld GPS and a compass.
- Experience surveying for wildlife, and/or conducting vegetation inventories, aquatic or soil assessments.
