**About The Position**:
Working closely with the Senior Biostatistician and reporting to the Manager, Research Methods Unit, the Biostatistician supports clinical and health researchers in the statistical leadership, consultation and service to clinical investigators within the Research Methods Unit. The Biostatistician assists in the promotion and support of clinical and health research in partnership across the Nova Scotia Health Authority, the IWK Health Centre teaching hospitals, and Dalhousie University’s Faculties of Medicine, Health Professions and Dentistry. In collaboration with RMU’s senior biostatisticians, function as biostatistician for the Research Methods Unit in providing consulting support in all aspects of biostatistical service provision, proactively collaborate with user groups to identify biostatistical research methods needs for projects and work interactively to address such needs.
The biostatistician will be responsible for formulating research questions that translate into hypotheses in a form amenable to statistical analysis framed within suitable study designs. Develop statistical methodology and analysis plans for descriptive, analytic, and experimental cross-sectional and longitudinal study designs including Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) and observational studies. Run study sample size calculations and create randomization lists for treatment allocation in RCTs.
**Qualifications**:
- M.Sc. in biostatistics or statistics - with a significant focus on biostatistics or the analysis of health research - or epidemiology required
- Experience in a clinical research environment considered an asset
- Professional Statistician accreditation from the Statistical Society of Canada (or qualification within one year of hiring)
- High level of proficiency in statistics or biostatistics
- Proficiency with statistical methods
- Strong computer programming skills
- Proficiency in computer software packages for database management and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, R, or STATA )
- Develop coding schemes and data dictionaries for databases in conjunction with data manager and Principal Investigators (PI’s). Clean and configure data.
- Write complex programs to process and summarize data. Conduct statistical analyses and interpret results of statistical analysis. Contribute to the writing of manuscripts, abstracts, slide presentations, and posters.
**Abilities**:
- Ability to successfully work in a multi-institutional clinical research methods service environment as a senior member of a team
- Ability/willingness to establish efficient, consistent and coherent standard operating procedures for biostatistician contributions to research projects
- Commitment to literate data analysis to ensure statistical analysis and data management code is documented, replicable, transferable and publishable
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work to deadlines and within budget
- Excellent communication skills including advanced written and spoken English skills
- Ability to effectively communicate statistical methods and results to clinical researchers who may have limited biostatistics training
