**The Opportunity**

The Trainmaster is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of rail traffic within the designated area of control. In the execution of these duties the Trainmaster will be responsible for monitoring the operating employees’ comprehension and compliance to operating rules, safe work procedures and all company policies. Duties and responsibilities of the incumbent includes but not limited to:

- Monitoring operations to ensure that employees understand and comply with company safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and regulations;
- Ensuring that good Health and Safety practices are in place, understood and practiced by all employees and that hazards or defects are corrected in a timely manner;
- Work with the Manager of Safety and Training to create and implement individual development plans for all operating employees;
- Effectively utilize performance management and interpersonal skills to coach, train and provide feedback to maximize employee potential;
- Evaluates train switching practices to identify process obstacles to improve overall efficiency;
- Attends all railway accidents/incidents in assigned areas and actively participates in the analysis, investigation findings and recovery plan of the operation resuming regular service;
- Monitor key performance metrics and processes to improve efficiency and meet company goals;
- Become proficient with the duties of the Operations Supervisor and when required backfill vacancies;
- Ability to work off hour shifts to monitor performance and provide feedback;
- Work with Customer Service on day-day requirements ensuring daily service plans are met;
- Work with Business Development providing operating knowledge to secure customer opportunities;
- Communicate with Class 1 representatives to achieve operational objectives, always looking for improvements; and
- Weekend call duties as required.

**The Person**

The successful incumbent will have:

- Minimum high school graduation or GED;
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or operations is an asset;
- A valid and clean BC Driver’s License Class 5 mínimal is required;
- 1-2 years of previous supervisory experience, preferably within a unionized environment;
- Previous working knowledge of railway operations;
- Conductor qualification is an asset while Engineer qualification is preferred;
- Previous experience conducting investigations;
- Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems;
- Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate and drive change; and
- Results focused with the ability to support 24x7 operations.

The successful Trainmaster is collaborative and team-oriented, able to motivate others to achieve set objectives and maintains positive interactions. Good leadership skills - ability to manage, mentor, and coach is a must.
