**Addictions Worker**

(Canada Summer Jobs Position)

Position Dependent Upon Funding Approval

**( 8 Week Contract - 35)**

**Position Start Date - mid-June**

**Wage $19.05 per Hour**

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work in collaboration with service users and the Addiction Service’s Team to deliver concurrent and trauma-informed substance use programs and supports to enhance the Suntrac, Harm Reduction Team and ASH/ARHP programs
- Provide direct and indirect supports to service users
- Assist with service user engagement activities
- Assist with administrative duties including answering telephones, gathering and compiling statistics, and program evaluation
- Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality
- Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management
- Follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times
- Uphold the organization’s mission, values and standards
- Other duties as require to ensure the continuation of services

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Enrollment in, or completion of, Addictions, Concurrent Disorders, or related program at a post-secondary institution
- An understanding of addiction programming including abstinence and harm reduction practices
- An understanding of trauma informed care, anti-racist anti-oppressive practice
- Knowledge and understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by individuals experiencing poverty, substance use and mental health concerns
- Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills

**HOURS OF WORK**:

- 35 hours per week
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Police Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or willingness to register to receive this vaccination as soon as possible

**This position has been made possible through the funding provided by Canada Summer Jobs Program. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria**:

- is between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment*;
- is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act**; and
- has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulation
- *The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
- **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
