**The Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf and Sagonaska Demonstration School** requires an experienced aquatic individual to participate in the growth and development of students who are Deaf, hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities, through an aquatics program.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**:
- Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational, and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and lifeguarding staff.
- Schedule staff to ensure safety.
- Maintain records.
- Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events.
- Implement school policies and to ensure the maintenance of aquatics equipment.
**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:
- National Lifeguard Lifesaving Society, Lifeguard Certification
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Courses in Non Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent.
**Skills and Qualifications**:** Your background and experience enable you to meet the following requirements**:
- Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf/hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective aquatic programs to meet the needs of students.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial and Demonstration Schools policies and procedures, guidelines and practices.
- Good judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers.
- Willingness to work shifts.
**Communication Skills**:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals.
- Proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL) (or willingness to obtain).
