**Your Opportunity**:
The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for extracting clinical information from the patient care records to support the provincial Alberta Cancer Diagnosis (ACD) Initiative and associated cancer diagnosis pathways. This position will play a key role in baseline and prospective data collection for key metrics to support the implementation and evaluation of new provincial cancer diagnosis pathways. This will include coding and abstracting patient records using the ICD-10-CA and CCI coding system and the Meta Health Abstracting system. In addition, the position will provide basic statistical analysis of prospective and baseline data for ongoing project assessments and reporting requirements. The position reports to and will work directly with the Senior Project Manager of the Cancer SCN. The successful incumbent will be detail-oriented, excel in a clinical project team environment, and have a good understanding of the data they are extracting. He/she will help the project team ensure implementation and evaluation of best clinical practice and ongoing quality improvement. Duties include: gathering/retrieving, collating, coding, designing, analyzing, and interpreting clinical and demographic data for patients. These positions are responsible for reviewing patient records to classify diagnoses and interventions, collect, and maintaining patient data. Coding a defined list of elements from patient charts, the position will collect site and provincial cancer diagnosis pathway data from patient charts, NetCare, and Connect Care to assist with data entry into approved clinical quality measurement tools. The 12-month term position is funded by a grant.

**Description**:
As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience extracting and analyzing Connect Care data is considered an asset.
