The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), supports capable, accountable and self-directed community governments providing a safe, sustainable and healthy environment for community residents.
**Job Information**:
The Pathfinder position reports to the Director, Emergency Management. The position provides support and guidance to clients on the process to access programs that may be available to eligible recipients in the event of a disaster. The position works with MACA HQ Staff, other GNWT departments, health authorities and Housing NWT, The Pathfinders also work with insurance, constructions, and engineering service providers to obtain estimates of financial loss and to support residents in securing services to repair damages to physical infrastructure.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position are:
- Knowledge of psychology and counselling of individuals who have experienced trauma;
- Knowledge of Municipal and Community governments, and Indigenous Governments;
- Knowledge of contracting and construction practices;
- Knowledge of financial processes and systems
- Strong organizational, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work in stressful situations;
- Effective interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills, listening and paraphrasing skills
**The above qualifications would be attained by**:
A college diploma from a credited post-secondary institution, plus a minimum of five years related experience
