**Your Opportunity**:
The Genetic Counsellor position reports to the Care Manager of the Learning & Development (L&D) clinic, in the Children, Youth, and Families, Addiction and Mental Health (CYF AMH), Community Addictions and Mental Health Services portfolio. The Genetic Counsellor works closely with the child psychiatrist and other team members to provide genetic assessments and counselling to children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders, who are at risk for, or who have been diagnosed with, a potential or known genetic disorder. The consultation is provided to assist the children, youth, and their families, as well as their care providers, to comprehend the medical facts relating to diagnosis, prognosis, and management; to understand the contribution of genetics/heredity to the disorder and risks in specific relatives; to understand the options available for dealing with this risk; to choose the course of action most compatible with their family’s goals, values, and religious beliefs; and to make the best possible adjustment to the condition and its implications. The Genetic Counsellor also provides education to other care team providers.

**Description**:
As a Genetics Counsellor II, supervises genetic counselors and their activities while contributing to efficient and effective genetic counseling services through the coordination of work activities, staff scheduling, staff development, performance management, and quality assurance initiatives. You will also perform the duties and responsibilities of a Genetic Counsellor I.

**Required Qualifications**:
Master's degree in Genetic Counselling. Certification (or eligibility) by the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) and/or the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). Five years of discipline-specific experience, within an acute care setting.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
A minimum of one year of genetic counselling experience. Individuals with other professional backgrounds, plus 10 years of experience in the field of genetic counselling, may be considered. It is expected that all incumbents will become certified and will maintain certification throughout their lifetime with Alberta Health Services. Experience working with children, youth, and families is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to develop therapeutic relationships and navigate sensitive situations. Initiative and ability to work independently in a clinical setting. Ability to create effective internal and external partnerships. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in an environment of continuous change and learning.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience using Connect Care preferred. Experience in a community child and adolescent mental health setting preferred. Experience working with children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders preferred.
