Maintenance Lead/handyman

**JOB DESCRIPTION**
The maintenance lead is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of maintenance services. This individual assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and staff and ensures high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in compliance with legislative requirements. The roles and responsibilities of this individual may also be in conjunction with those of the Environmental Services Manager.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Completes work orders and communicates maintenance repair needs
- Maintenance of the facility including equipment, furnishings, and fixtures in a clean and sanitary good state of repair
- Maintenance of external grounds and waste management program
- Liaises with outside services contractors and inspectors to ensure equipment and environment conform to applicable codes and regulations
- Collaborates with other departments in tasks such as transferring residents, moving and storing supplies, and moving furniture and equipment
- Performs regular maintenance checks of all equipment and supplies, routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning work
- General repairs to building, equipment and furnishings, general maintenance of rooms and other areas including painting, wall paper and surface repairs
- Maintain HVAC system to ensure proper air quality and comfortable temperature throughout the Home
- Monitor and maintain the effectiveness of building mechanical, electrical and fire detection, and safety systems
- Tests and schedules inspections of the fire protection systems as required by code, tests resident security systems and educates staff on fire safety
- Ensures roles and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with PIDAC recommendations during an outbreak
- Participates and provides insight during Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Prevention and Control committee meetings for quality improvement
- Performs other duties assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum of college diploma, post-secondary degree preferred
- Have at minimum of three (3) years’ experience in long-term care or relevant healthcare setting
- Occupational Health and Safety Certification is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems
- Possess understanding of systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical
- Required skills include plumbing, general repairs, painting, preventative maintenance, and basic grounds maintenance
- Possess basic understanding of safety and fire codes
- Knowledgeable of the Long-Term Care Home/Retirement Homes Act and promotes the Resident's Bill of Rights
- Evidence of consistent updating of clinical skills and knowledge
