As a skilled General Internist, you will provide quality care to the patients at Shouldice Hospital.

**Skills and Responsibilities**:
As a skilled General Internist, you will be consulted to see selected patients in a pre-operative clinic setting. Patients may be referred with a variety of comorbidities, including cardiac, gastrointestinal, hematologic, oncologic, neurologic/neurodegenerative, renal, respiratory, rheumatologic diseases, congenital disorders, among others. In doing a thorough assessment, you will determine if the patient is medically suitable for surgery at Shouldice, order any additional testing needed, counsel patients and provide recommendations for management.

**The General Internist will exhibit skills and qualifications such as**:

- Ability to conduct a thorough history and physical examination of medically complex patients.
- Proficiency in implementing evidence-based peri-operative guidelines for the management of common medical scenarios.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate peri-operative instructions and recommendations to patients, physicians, nurses, etc.
- Judicious use of pre-operative testing.
- Ability to use evidence-based resources to stay up to date with current practice.
- Eagerness to participate in Shouldice guideline review and order set review, where needed.

**General Internist pre-requisite requirements**:

- CPSO license to practice in internal medicine.
- A member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- Two years of independent practice experience in a general internal medicine practice setting.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Expected hours: 8 - 16 per week
