The Health & Counselling Centre (HCC) at U of T Mississauga (UTM) is a multi-disciplinary health clinic that provides student-friendly medical care, mental health counselling, and health education and promotion programs and services to a diverse student population of undergraduate and graduate students. The HCC strives to empower students to make healthier, evidence-based choices to support their growth and development, assists students in their pursuit of academic success, and promotes adoption of positive coping skills to foster greater resiliency in the pursuit of current and future goals. The HCC works closely with other departments across the University with the goal of ensuring students have timely access to quality medical and mental health supports.

Come join the Health & Counselling Team at UTM in this exciting opportunity to provide care for our students. The incumbent is a Registered Health Professional with a specific focus of practice for providing counselling and short-term psychotherapy to Black, Indigenous, and Racialized students at UTM. The purpose of this role is to provide Black, Indigenous, and Racialized students with the opportunity to work with a professional member of their identified community for mental health counselling needs and supports. Under general direction of the Lead Counsellor, the incumbent provides counselling in accordance with, and within, an anti-oppressive and anti-racist framework, and primarily utilizes a single-session (or One-At-A-Time) approach to counselling sessions.
The incumbent provides life coaching, personal counselling and solution/goal-focused psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students of diverse ages, economic levels and cultural backgrounds who are experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties (e.g., family problems, interpersonal conflicts, anxiety, low self-esteem) using individual, couple, or group counselling methods. The incumbent must assess and refer, as appropriate, to community resources and available supports for students; act as a resource for other student service professionals and make referrals to other areas/resources within UTM (i.e. Accessibility Services, psychiatric services, academic advising, career counselling, Academic Skills Centre), the University and the community; and participate in Orientation and other outreach programs as required. The incumbent will also participate in conducting workshops and relevant training with particular focus on programming and topics to support the mental health and wellbeing of student community members who identify as Racialized. Inherent in this role are the knowledge, skills, and attitudes specific to critical thinking and decision-making, ability to analyze and assess presenting mental health concerns, and flexibility and decision-making in fluid situations with unpredictable outcomes.
**Your responsibilities will include**:
- Providing clinical counselling and psychotherapy to individual students and/or groups of students and making referrals to appropriate resources
- Assessing the mental health of clients
- Providing initial clinical support and/or counselling to distressed students in crisis and making referrals to appropriate resources
- Developing psychotherapeutically-appropriate materials for group counselling and intake procedures for clients
