**Programs Bus Driver**

To offer outstanding childcare program for the Oaklands community, the Programs Bus Driver will work within a team of staff and be responsible for the safe transportation of children and staff to planned locations, events and activities in Greater Victoria and the surrounding area. This position helps provide quality childcare programming of the Oaklands Community Association’s (OCA) childcare programs which services children in Oaklands and the Greater Victoria Area. The position is supervised and reports to the individual Childcare and Youth Program Managers within the OCA.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Complete Pre-trip inspection form and abide by all safe driving rules of the road
- Ensure cleanliness of bus at end of each out trip, including removal of garbage, sweeping of floor, and general tidying of contents; maintain bus cage by sweeping and removing garbage
- Monitor gas usage and refill tank as needed (using OCA petrol payment card)
- Safe pick-up and delivery of Oaklands staff and children/youth
- Establish and maintain good communication with Oaklands staff and children; facilitate positive and professional relations
- When required, provide supervision and guidance to children during field trips and special activities with consideration of the health and well-being of all children as the highest priority
- Assist in organizing and preparing the children for transitions into and exiting the program space, bus and out-trip location; reiterate bus riding guidelines with children
- Be familiar with all the OCA’s Policies and Procedures and VIHA Licensing Guidelines

**Hours of Work**:This is a permanent on-call position with varying days and hours/week. Summer camps will consist of 4 weeks full time work, with extra hours periodically throughout driving for both camps, Hamilton Park, and Little Acorns daycare and the Oaklands Out-of-School Care Program.

**Compensation**: Wage is $20/hour plus 4% in lieu of holiday pay. This position offers OCA discounts.

**Qualifications - required**
- Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Clean criminal record check
- Valid and subsisting first aid certification
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be 19+ years of age

**Qualifications - additionally preferred**
- Experience working with children in a childcare/recreational setting
- A minimum of twenty hours child-related coursework
- Strong leadership skills

**Competencies**
- **Communication skills** - ability to listen, speak and write accurately and with clarity; understand non-verbal messages; interpret cultural differences in communication; responsive and understanding of other viewpoints; open to giving & receiving feedback
- **Problem solving skills **- systematic, analytical; able to organize information, identify key factors & underlying causes, generate solutions, develop healthy working relationships, and facilitate the prevention and/or resolution of conflicts within the organization
