The Electrical Assessor / Commissioning Specialist is a skilled technical position working in both field
and office environments. This position requires self-directed work and performing tasks as directed by
supervisors. The basic work functions for this role are electrical inspection, start-up, and commissioning.
Electrical Commissioning duties include:
- Detailed inspections of all phases of construction projects involving electrical installations
(e.g. conduit runs, duct banks, conductors, service sections, distribution panels, motor control
centres, local control panels, PLCs, hard-wired relay logic controls, and instrumentation);
- Witnessing the performance of electrical system testing (e.g. NETA testing, meggar testing of
conductors and motors, electrical circuit continuity testing, ground resistance testing, ground
fault testing, circuit breaker testing, and motor control centre testing);
- Ensuring conformance with contract construction drawings and specifications, and approved
material and equipment submittals;
- Documenting instances of material and/or installation non-compliance;
- Clearly and professionally informing the contracted and client of non-compliance issues, and
discussing required corrective work;
- Attending a variety of construction meetings
Building Condition Assessment duties include:
- Conduct on-site facility assessments as part of a multi-disciplinary team on existing buildings,
evaluating building electrical systems, including fire systems;
- Determining condition, remaining useful life, required costs, and remedial measures for
electrical systems;
- Providing technical identification and description of deficiencies ranging from concerns to critical
issues;
- Identifying recommendations for correction and describing, in sufficient technical detail, for future
project planning and cost estimating;
- Interviewing building operations and maintenance staff to determine building history, previous work
orders, and operations information;
- Preparing project progress documentation for Project Manager review;
- Reviewing the work of peers and actively participating in post-project reviews.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience with installation of electrical systems, controls,
instrumentation, and SCADA systems within the water/wastewater industry.
- The ability to logically and systematically troubleshoot faulty equipment (mechanical, electrical, or
instrumentation).
- The ability to read construction drawings (all disciplines).
- Detail-oriented with strong technical skills and interpersonal skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Self-starter with initiative and ability to organize and manage work, and balance competing priorities.
