Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

**Position Overview**:
Under the general supervision of the Regulatory Compliance Officer, Radiopharmaceutical Production Program, the incumbent is responsible for:

- Functioning as designate Radiation Safety Officer for the Winnipeg Cyclotron Facility and Central Radiopharmacy.
- Ensuring that all CNSC requirements are followed whenever the activities are performed that are authorized under facility CNSC licences.
- Ensuring that the programs operate in a manner that protects the health and safety of personnel, the public and the environment.
- Oversight of the daily aspects of the Radiation Protection Program.
- Acting as the primary contact with the CNSC for licensing and compliance matters.
- Identifying radiation safety problems and advising program leadership of potential risks.
- Implementing corrective actions for the Radiation Protection Program.
- Ensuring compliance with the CNSC regulatory requirements.
- Reporting regulatory non-compliances to the CNSC.
- Holding the authority to stop any activity related to the operation and servicing of the cyclotron and use of radioactive materials that might result in noncompliance.
- Developing procedures and policies related to radiation safety and training.
- Development of and monitoring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Radiation Protection Program.
- Classifies Nuclear Energy Workers (NEWs), informs them of their status and keeps written records of staff NEW acknowledgments.
- Providing expert guidance to technologist staff, students and support staff within the designated service areas through clinical leadership, mentoring, supervision, education, evaluation, and research.

**Experience**:

- Five years previous related experience required, with past experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity preferred. Time spent in a relevant graduate training program may be considered for related experience.
- Additional documented training specific to radiation safety required.
- Experience in monitoring and handling radioactive material required.
- A minimum of 2 years working or training in a cyclotron facility working with radionucleotides preferred.
- Familiarity with cyclotron operation and experience as a cyclotron operator is preferred.

**Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)**:

- Bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, pharmacy or related fields required. MSc preferred.
- Training as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist with CAMRT certification or as a Radiopharmacy Technologist or equivalent background is acceptable.

**SPECIAL TRAINING**:

- On the job training will be provided with respect to:

- Radiation Safety Training Officer (RSO) course.
- Operation of the cyclotron.
- Working under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions.
- Compliance with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Act and the Regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in all work performed.
- Compliance with the Regulations of the Drugs Directorate of Health Canada in all work performed.
- Obtaining a “Certificate of Competence” in the Transport of Radioactive Dangerous Goods.

**Certification/Licensure/Registration**:

- Required to be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker relative to applicable Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) legislation.
- Required to be certified by CNSC as an RSO for Class II facilities.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Current working knowledge of the Canadian regulatory framework relative to all aspects of radiopharmaceuticals, program and project planning and evaluation skills, excellent interpersonal and team building skills as well as verbal and written communication skills, are required.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Good physical and mental health.
- The incumbent is exposed to radiation (which will be kept as low as reasonably achievable).
