**The Opportunity**

Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Inclusion Programmer, and reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Inclusion Camp Convenor is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the City of Barrie’s adapted/integrated camps. Specifically, this position is responsible for inclusion program scheduling, development, delivery, staff training and customer service. This position oversees approximately 50 to 100 campers with disabilities and/or unique needs ranging from 4 to 18+ years of age, while leading and coaching 15 to 20 Inclusion Camp Staff including Senior Inclusion Camp Leaders, Inclusion Camp Leaders and Inclusion Volunteers. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the development and delivery of inclusive recreation camp programs at the City of Barrie.

**Education **(degree/diploma/certifications)
- Currently enrolled in or is a student in Secondary School, College, or University*
- Behavioural Management System (BMS) Certification from an accredited institution and/or association**:

- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate from HIGH FIVE® National**:

- Safeguard Training from the Lifesaving Society**:

- Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications**

**Must provide proof by June 30 and/or first date of hire

**Experience**
- Six (6) months of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities in a camp work environment
- Demonstrated experience providing support to persons with disabilities and/or unique needs
- Demonstrated experience with child minding and camp programming

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- General knowledge of various disabilities and/or unique needs
- Working knowledge of camp programming
- Demonstrated ability to provide personal care to persons with disabilities and/or unique needs
- Demonstrated ability to effectively respond to and accommodate individuals with disabilities and/or unique needs
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- Demonstrated ability to perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission and values
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and judgement when handling confidential or sensitive information
- Intermediate customer service and communication (oral and written) skills
- Intermediate computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

**Conditions of Employment**
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check*
- Valid Ontario Class “G2” or greater Driver’s Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business
- Please note that this is a requirement of the position for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the **Police Record Check Policy**. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.

**Other Important Information**

**Work Term**: Approximately 4 Months - up to September 6, 2025

**Location**: Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Drive, Barrie), East Bayfield Community Centre (80 Livingstone Street East, Barrie), Peggy Hill Team Community Centre (171 Mapleton Avenue, Barrie)

**Hours**:The normal hours of work are up to and including 40 hours per week, with a varying schedule to support business demand.

**Wage**:$19.57 to $20.57 per hour
