As an Excavation Permit Inspector, you will be responsible for inspection and geotechnical engineering services for a variety of engineering projects. Primary duties include:

Inspect construction materials and methods to ensure compliance with City plans and specifications.
Measure and record excavated dimensions for billing. Develop work lists and perform permit repair markings.
Perform Final Acceptance Certificate inspections.
Handle inquiries, complaints, customer service inquiries and communications as required.
Inspect work performed by Roads Maintenance contractors.
Update Geographic Information System (GIS) database as required.
Assist with contract and project administration using a variety of computer programs, including ArcGIS.
Assist the Excavation Permit Office with permit processing.
- **Qualifications**
***A completed 2 year diploma in Electric or Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
- At least 3 years of related experience (for example: road design, construction, inspection, experience with soils, concrete, and/or geotechnical engineering).
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits.
- Previous experience working with excavation permits will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires well developed communication skills and the ability to give and receive technical information about job design and construction progress.
- Demonstrated ability to complete concise reports, document project progression, investigate complaints, and convey issues and/or concerns to engineers or project supervisors.

**Working Conditions**:Work on construction sites and/or outdoors with exposure to weather elements, dust, dirt, vehicle fumes, and/or heavy construction equipment.

**Pre-employment Requirements**
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
