**Employment**: _Full Time, 3 month contract_

**Pay Range**: _20-24/hr_

**Hours**: _10:00am - 6:30pm Mon-Fri, Flexibility in scheduling required_

**Start Date**:_Immediate_

**Supporting Contracts**: _Ministry of Social Services_

**Description**

SCP’s Food Shelter Cook is primarily responsible for providing nutritious meals and snacks to shelter & outreach youth while supporting shelter youth in developing food centric life skills. The Shelter Cook is also responsible for managing the shelter's food budget, overseeing safety and cleanliness of the shelter kitchen, and coordinating food services within the agency. SCP’s Shelter Cook is required to comply with industry standards and best practices while adhering to all SCP policies and mandated approaches in the completion of their duties.

**Duties & Responsibilities (Outcomes to be monitored quarterly)**
- overseeing the four pillars of food security
- develop strategies to increase food security for SCP youth
- Provide nutritious meals and snacks to shelter and outreach youth
- Meal plan collaboratively with shelter youth
- Grocery/Supply shopping with shelter youth
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and supper Monday to Friday
- Meal plan/prep as required for weekends and holidays
- Comply with workplace health and safety guidelines
- Ensuring physical safety of staff and youth
- Maintain a clean work space
- Follow food safety guidelines
- Facilitate food centric life skill development with shelter youth
- Teach youth basic meal planning and grocery shopping skills
- Teach youth basic cooking skills and kitchen safety
- Managing the shelter’s food budget
- Track food related expenditures
- Track and submit food related receipts
- Coordinate food services within SCP and externally
- Prepare soup for “Soup in the Park”
- Provide meals for staff meetings, trainings, and events
- Plan and prepare for catering/food services contracts
- Assist with shelter staff meetings and leadership meetings as required

**Qualifications (Education & Experience)**
- Secondary completion required
- Post secondary/College/University strongly preferred
- Minimum 1 year food services experience
- Preference will be given to applicants with certification/training in
- Food safety, safe food handling, or equivalent
- Front line youth care experience
- Non-violent/needs based communication
- Training/event coordination
- Budgeting/financial literacy
- Contracts and contract negotiation
- Preference will be given to applicants experience in working with
- Youth with exceptionalities, gang involvement, generational Trauma/PTSD/CPTSD
- Indigenous populations, vulnerable populations
- Individuals experiencing current/previous exploitation
- Individuals managing substance use and/or mental health concerns
