Driller/blaster

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan and map drilling locations
- Complete pre blast risk assessments
- Schedule drilling/blasting
- Drill according to schedule following all safety procedures.
- Load explosives in blast holes
- Verify appropriate detonation sequencing and connection.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed in the handling, storage and transport of explosives.
- Effectively communicate with team members to ensure that safety practices are understood and followed.
- Direct and oversee the blast helper.
- Maintenance of drill as required.
- Maintain daily records of blasting activity.
- Work as part of a team to achieve company objectives.
- Assist in other areas of the quarry when drilling/blasting duties are completed.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Drilling and Blasting within an aggregate operation
- Well organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to evaluate and detect unsafe work conditions.
- Ability to prioritize to meet company objectives.
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Team player who can work harmoniously with others.
- Knowledge of aggregate material
- Commitment to safety
- Completion of certifications as listed below.

**Certification**:
Drillers and blasters in Ontario Surface Mines need to be accredited in the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development Surface Miner Modular training program (#770210) with both the Common Core modules as well as modules:

- 5054: Operate Production Drill
- 5055: Handle Blasting Agents, Explosives and Detonators
- 5056: Blast Rock

Our drilling/blasting needs do not require a full-time working schedule. Participation in other areas of the quarry operation is required.
