**JOB TITLE**: Shift Facilitator

**POSITION TYPE**:Full-Time, 30 hours/weekly

**SCHEDULED SHIFTS**:Overnights/ 10 hour shifts

**JOB STATEMENT**

The Shift Facilitator provides leadership to the Frontline Workers, volunteers, and placement students, promoting a positive and safe work environment. This includes supporting the training and care for team members. The Shift Facilitator is responsible to assist in preparing the shelter for nightly guest service and oversee shelter provision in the overnight hours. The Shift Facilitator effectively coaches Frontline Workers in role responsibilities and works alongside the team by demonstrating the expectations and best practices of the shelter.
- **This position is intended to assist in providing a continual leadership presence during all guest service hours. This role will see shifts that fall within a 7-day working calendar, reflecting an organization that operates 365 days a year.**_

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SHIFT FACILITATOR**
- Be a supportive and proactive leader, working alongside Frontline Workers as they respond to guests seeking shelter, food, and other basic care supplies.
- Supports the dignity of guests by seeking to identify their needs in a respectful manner.
- Guide and coach the Frontline team in responding quickly to individuals in crisis, including but not limited to physical or mental health concerns, anger and aggression, and interpersonal crisis.
- Use initiative to assess situations and make appropriate decisions to support both guests and staff.
- Support and participate in the training and development of both employees and volunteers.
- Actively coach Frontline Workers in the moment, providing timely feedback and encouragement.
- Initiate team debriefs and support Frontline Workers in completing accurate case notes and occurrence reports.
- Work closely with the shelter Leadership Team regarding operational and staffing concerns.
- Be proactive to communicate identified concerns that impact the integrity of the shelter and service provision to guests.
- Act as a liaison of the Frontline Team, presenting the priorities of the Frontline Team to leadership, in a timely and effective manner.
- Work alongside the Frontline Team in the enforcement of guest service limitations when necessary.
- Encourages guests to seek resources and services that support guests achieving their goals.
- Provide crisis intervention as required.
- Participate in all staff training and attend regular scheduled meetings with both staff and leadership.
- Maintain effective and open communication with the System Navigator to support and establish guest action plans.
- Demonstrates the expectations and best practices of Grace Inn Shelter.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned, based on the needs of the shelter.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Degree/Diploma in Social Science or Human Services or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of addiction, mental health, and poverty issues
- Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; good judgement.
- Tolerance of stressful situations and the ability to deal with stress constructively.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Promotion of values such as compassion, empathy, patience, and inclusion.
- Experience in maintaining accurate records.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada

Schedule:

- Evening shift
- Holidays
- On call
- Weekend availability

Supplemental pay types:

- Overtime pay

Needed PPE required for COVID-19 safety precautions are provided to all staff and shelter guests.

**Education**:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Social Service or Relevant: 1 year (required)
