Description of position
Sources Peer Support Program sets out to connect our community where connection is missing. We fill the gaps where barriers exist and facilitate accessibility to services within our community. We practice a harm reduction approach where we emulate acceptance, compassion, and empathy to those we serve.

The Peer Support Network has a mission to meet the basic needs of our community’s most vulnerable members by providing access to a variety of services and resources within the social service sector. By meeting these needs, we uphold each person’s dignity, self-respect, and sense of self-worth while meeting their basic needs and connecting them to vital services.

The Peer Outreach Worker will work directly with the Peer Advocate and Peer Coordinator to provide men and women who are experiencing homelessness and substance use in providing laundry and clothing services, as well as prepping and serving a hot lunch and refreshments at the drop-in services. They will help join outreach efforts in the community and at various drop-in services. They will be connection points among their peers in the White Rock/South Surrey area. This is part of a larger service that also includes showers, overdose prevention services, harm reduction services and connection to resources, of which peer workers may also assist with.

**ACCOUNTABLE TO**:
The Peer Outreach Worker is accountable to the Peer Coordinators, and the Manager of Overdose Prevention and Peer Support Services

**General Responsibilities**:

- Make and serve a hot lunch and refreshments for approximately 10-20 visitors. This number may increase depending on need as the program grows. (Must have Food Safe level 1)
- Assist in providing laundry services by maintaining a schedule (as needed), keeping laundry are organized, distributing supplies and operating laundry appliances.
- Assist with the organization and distribution of donated clothing for our visitors.
- Assist with space set up and clean up.
- Provide harm reduction supplies and fostering a culturally non-judgemental and anti-stigma environment.
- Debrief with the Peer Coordinators and the Manager of Overdose Prevention Services and Peer Support Services regularly.
- Ensure a culturally safe and non-judgemental environment.
- Ensure that SOURCES Policies and Procedures are followed as well as the operating procedures of the Overdose Prevention Services and Peer Support Services.
- Ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of all clients are maintained.
- Ensure the health and safety of all clients in the course of working with them.

**Qualifications**:

- Be aged 18+
- Lived experience with substance use and homelessness an asset.
- Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering and lived experience of mental health challenges / substance use/ homelessness/ lived experience of harm reduction practices;
- Preferred: Certificate/Diploma in community social services, the social/human sciences, addictions or in law/justice.
- 1 year of related experience with emphasis on mental health, substance use, homelessness and/or social services
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended lengths of time.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and central data systems
- Proven communication and conflict resolution skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of social justice, health promotion and public health approaches and models of social support and health care
- Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with diverse range of cliental including individuals who are actively using substances and living with significant health and behavioural challenges
