Reporting to the Manager, Water and Wastewater, the Supervisor, Water and Wastewater will provide strong leadership and expert guidance to staff by following the City's core values of Care, Collaboration, Courage, and Service. Under management direction, you will provide supervision, and co-ordinate daily section activities related to the operation and maintenance of the City's water distribution, wastewater and storm water collection systems.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Prepare and analyze technical and maintenance studies for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems
- Assist in the annual operating and capital budget process by providing statistical analysis and/or benchmarking best practices
- Familiar with collective bargaining agreements, including supervising staff, participate in the hiring process and discipline of staff
- Provide training to staff on Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions,
- Adhere to all safety requirements and promote a safe working environment
- Knowledgeable in Water and Wastewater infrastructure Material Standards and Specifications, including Watermain commissioning practices.
- Provide design review, comments, and recommendations on infrastructure projects which may include Capital Improvements, Site Plan, New Development, or Inter-municipal projects
- Coordinate special projects for construction and maintenance contracts
- Investigate innovative methods, procedures and products
- Prepare tender documents, review and evaluate submissions and provide recommendation for award.
- Coordinate and provide supervision for municipal water and wastewater contracts, and CUPE staff including staff in training
- Provide technical assistance including cost estimating, preparation of payment certificates, and calculating quantities
- Prepare annual water and wastewater budgets and maintenance projects
- Prepare and work within annual operating and capital budgets and produce tender documents and support policy development
- Ensure approved service levels are in compliance with relevant legislation, policies, standards and procedures
- Knowledgeable in Maximo work order management database or other similar database, Maintain Maximo for water and wastewater activities
- Liaise with public, property owners, contractors, other departments, utilities, consultants, government agencies and other municipalities regarding matters pertaining to various City policies and procedures, municipal services and programs

**Education and Experience**:

- Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- CET designation is an asset
- 5 years in water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance and operations
- Previous supervisory experience within a unionized environment

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with work order management systems (preferably Maximo)
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS and an understanding of relevant legislation, acts, codes and regulations
- Working knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act and associated regulations
- Working knowledge of Sewer Use Bylaw
- Analytical, administrative, organization and problem solving skills
- Ability to deal effectively with tact, courtesy, discretion and diplomacy with all levels of staff and the public
- Manages organizational change through strong leadership and communication skills

- Must be and willing and able to transport yourself to City work sites as required (mileage compensated).
- Standby is required, with flexibility/availability to respond to "after hours" emergencies when needed
