The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

**Position title**: Interim Vice President, Academic & University Affairs

**Reports to**: President

**Employee status**: Hourly Exempt

**Length of term**: January 17, 2023 - April 30, 2023

**Hours per week**: 37.5

Position Purpose

The Interim Vice President, Academic & University Affairs is responsible for leading the Academic & University Affairs portfolio and representing the student body.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lobby the University on issues of interest to students and involving the University, including but not limited to daycare, equity, safety, academics, University policies, campus planning, mental health and well-being, and student housing
- Assist Constituencies with academic and other issues between them and their Faculty or School
- Liaise with the Constituencies on academic matters and relations with the University
- Inform Council members if they are not in compliance with the requirement to seek election to serve on a minimum of one (1) Committee, in accordance with Section II, Article 6(2)
- Ensure that bodies and individuals report back to Council on actions Council has directed them to take
- Along with the Council Senators, act as a liaison between Council and the student members of the UBC Vancouver Senate
- After an Annual General Meeting, cause to be filed with the Registrar of Companies the documents as required by the Society Act, and any other documents
- Liaise with organizations at the University representing the faculty, the sessional instructors, the teaching assistants and the non-teaching staff concerning University affairs
- Assist in the establishment of new Constituencies in accordance with Code Section II, Article 16
- Present options and recommendations to Council regarding policies or plans that are related to the mandate of the Vice-President Academic & University Affairs
- Have such other powers and duties as are assigned by Council or the Executive Committee from time to time
- Manage the VP AUA staff
- Works with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
- Other duties as outlined in AMS Code and Bylaws

Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges
- Knowledge of AMS club and constituencies issues
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail orientated
- Comfort in working in a technical environment
- Professional conduct
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of AMS fiscal procedures and policies is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of computer and technological skills
