Sambro Fisheries is actively growing and is looking for a full-time Generalist Maintenance Technician to join our fast-paced team. The Generalist Maintenance Technician will be responsible for executing general maintenance activities at Sambro Fisheries Ltd. This includes the following directions laid out by the plant management, cooperation with outside contractors, and proper adherence to company policies and procedures. All activities will be completed in a manner to reflect that we produce safe quality food products.

The Generalist Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Plant Manager. The Technician will work harmoniously with all Maintenance employees, the Quality Assurance Department, the Production Department, and Administration, as well as all site personnel and relevant outside contractors.

Sambro Fisheries serves as a primary seafood source for retailers, wholesalers, distributors, restaurants, and fine dining facilities around the world. Our team sources fresh finfish, groundfish and shellfish primarily from our local community-based independent fishers and throughout Atlantic Canada. Sambro Fisheries is proudly located in HRM at the very heart of this industry in the historic coastal fishing community of Sambro, Nova Scotia, a 25-minute drive from peninsular Halifax.

**Responsibilities**:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Complete maintenance of buildings and grounds, machinery and equipment including performing both preventative and reactive maintenance. These will be done in a timely, safe and efficient manner. In doing so, reflect that we produce food grade products that meet or exceed all quality parameters.
- Communicate progress on tasks, as well as issues and potential issues with the any maintenance activities to management in a timely fashion to ensure activities can be carried out smoothly and problems are addressed proactively.
- Ensure all maintenance within our facilities is carried out in a safe, efficient and timely manner to prevent disruption of normal daily activities.
- The job requires working in all weather conditions associated with a coastal environment, weather and conditions at times can be severe.
- Follow regulatory requirements on permits as outlined in Occupational Health and Safety act, governmental bodies and the Sambro Fisheries safety program.
- Maintain accurate work records. This will be through an electronic work order system (Maintain X)
- Be open to and cooperate with change and continuous improvement of processes and practices.
- Repair and rebuild mechanical equipment, involvement in building new equipment as needed.
- Coordinate and secure parts inventory as approved by the Plant Manager.
- Support the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, and Environmental Management by displaying the appropriate behaviors and leadership towards meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.

**EDUCATION/COMPETENCIES**
- Demonstrated ability in the maintenance / construction industry.
- Any certificates and/or experience in Carpentry, Mechanical, Refrigeration or other maintenance related fields would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to perform a multitude of tasks including, carpentry, plumbing, welding / fabrication, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, mechanical and refrigeration system repairs as well as other assigned tasks.
- Fall Arrest and Confined Space training and certification would be considered an asset
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience

- French not required
