**Youth Alcohol & Drug Counsellor **(Term)**

**Native Healing Centre**

The Native Healing Centre requires a full time Youth Alcohol & Drug Counsellor (Term), working in Prince George. The Counsellor will work with other counselling staff and PGNFC programs to ensure support to clients through both cultural and clinical ways of working; to deliver prevention and early intervention workshops and activities.

The position includes counselling support, supporting cultural connections, crisis intervention, referral and advocacy, group facilitation and working closely with all service providers in the community.

**DUTIES**:

- Assess client needs, develop, and implement holistic treatment plans to enhance daily functioning and encourage healthy lifestyle choices, including referrals to recovery and treatment programs.
- Develop and deliver prevention, intervention, wellness, and risk reduction activities that are culturally relevant to the community, in the format of individual counselling, groups, camps and workshops.
- Work from an Indigenous model of wellness while respecting PGNFC cultural protocols.
- Provide liaison, consultative and education services to other service providers on behalf of Indigenous clients and their families, within the limits of client confidentiality.
- Deliver services, as guided by, and in consultation with, the coordinator and team.
- Provide group and community activities aimed at increasing awareness and developing resiliency skills.

**QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited educational institution.
- Experience in counselling, group facilitation and crisis intervention are an asset.
- Familiarity with Indigenous teachings and practices.
- Ability to build relationships with the professional community, work independently and part of a team.
- Oral and written communication skills as well as computer literacy.
- Criminal record check is a requirement.
