LANDS MANAGER

Full-time Salaried Position

As the Bridge River Indian Band (BRIB) Lands and Resources Manager, you will oversee the management and stewardship of all lands and resources related projects on reserve and within the BRIB traditional territory. The
Lands and Resources Manager reports directly to the Band Administrator and to Chief and Council as required.
This position is responsible for liaising with other governments regarding reserves and the community’s area of interest and using administrative systems for land related business.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all activities related to resource development in Bands area of Interest, assists and provide information to Chief & Council on land and land use issues
- Evaluate land use and developing protection policies, guidelines and provided leadership recommendations
- Maintain files on land, including a record of all reserve lands including contracts; set asides, Certificate of

Possession lands, residential areas, survey and mapping products, including the management of photos, maps and imagery database, GIS mapping, review referrals and implement referrals process
- Supervision of all Forestry and Fisheries related activities and monitoring compliance
- Provide oversite to environment and climate change initiatives
- Provides oversite, mentorship and direct Lands and Fisheries Department staff including training
- Utilize appropriate project management techniques to meet deadlines, manage resources and meet reporting requirements.
- Conduct and participate in formal meetings and negotiations, and develop agreements with other government departments, and the private sector to ensure consistency of formal communication on issues relating to land reserve issues.
- Manage and Implement Referral process. Follow-up on all referrals. Inform other departments of pending applicable referral eg: Economic development.
- Ensure that project expenditures meet the terms & conditions and provide complete and accurate reporting as required
- Keep informed with trends, techniques and issues in land management
- Participate in policy reviews, symposiums, activities and/or meetings
- Ensure BRIB participates in archaeological and environmental monitoring of all works within BRIB and Core and Traditional Territories
- Other related duties as assigned by Chief & Council and Administrator from as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree in natural resource management, finance, governance or other related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience, 5 years of experience preferred
- Training or experience in developing and managing budgets, including project management
- Knowledge and experience of similar program delivery in the context of aboriginal culture and history
- Considerable knowledge of natural resource disciplines and activities including fisheries and aquatic habitat, wildlife, forestry, range, recreation, cultural heritage, parks and mining within and indigenous lens
- Solid knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental legislation and regulatory requirements, as well as indigenous rights and title
- Extremely organized with excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
- Electrofishing and Swift Water certification an asset
- WorkSafeBC - Level 1 First Aid and Transportation Endorsement
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract and reliable vehicle
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use tact, good judgement in dealing with sensitive, complex issues and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other database platforms.

Wage: $35.00-$45.00 per hour based on salary ~ Depending on experience and negotiable
