**Position Rationale**:
Working on the **Anthony Henday** ring road, reporting to a Foreman based in Sherwood Park, a **Laborer** is responsible for providing support, for all aspects of highway maintenance. A Laborer provides a broad range of support in areas, such as removing materials and debris, site preparation, washing bridges and appurtenances, trimming, using handheld tools and basic equipment operation.

**General Responsibilities**:

- Working as part of a highway maintenance crew.
- Garbage and debris removal from the road right of way.
- Washing of bridge decks and appurtenances.
- Trimming grass, using a handheld trimmer.
- Site preparation for Tractor and Spider mowing.
- Execute temporary traffic control plans as part of a HM crew by placing, removing, covering, and uncovering traffic control signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
- Other general labor and highway maintenance related duties as required.

- Accomplish goals in a team environment.

**Working Conditions/Environment**:

- Nighttime working may be required for some duties.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to high speed/high volume traffic.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company’s substance testing requirements.

- Demonstrating a high level of vigilance and commitment to safe work practices on site at all times.
- Actively participating in all relevant safety training.

- Participating in worksite inspections as required.
- Actively participating in a Don’t Walk By culture and Near Miss reporting program.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 40 Lbs. on a regular basis.
- Ability to perform heavy strenuous and repetitive work in an outdoor setting.
- Ability to act in a courteous manner to project a positive company image.
- Awareness of one’s own condition and relative fitness to ensure total readiness for work.
