In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will conduct research, analysis and evaluation of legislative, strategic, and operational issues that impact the Criminal Behaviour Analysis Section (CBAS) operations and business processes.

**About Us**:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.

The Criminal Behaviour Analysis Section (CBAS) is comprised of three units; the High Risk Offender Unit (HROU), the Crime Linkage Analysis Unit (CLAU) and the Forensic Interview Team (FIT). These units are staffed by dedicated and well trained professionals.

The inception of the Section occurred in 1995 and was designed to provide specialized support services of a behavioural and investigative nature within the OPP and to all external policing partners within the province of Ontario in accordance with the OPP Strategic Plan and also various legislated requirements.

The High Risk Offender Unit (HROU) is comprised of five sections providing a variety of services to investigators and law enforcement agencies. These units are:
Threat and Behaviour Analysis Team (TBAT);
Risk Offender Enforcement Unit (ROE);
Forensic Psychiatry Unit; and the

Research Unit.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: To conduct research, analysis and evaluation of legislative, strategic, and operational issues that impact the Criminal Behaviour Analysis Section (CBAS) operations and business processes.

To support CBAS in achieving its goals and objectives through the provision of effective research, analysis, and program evaluation.

To advise and participate in the development of research methods, assist with data collection and analysis and engage in knowledge translation activities and the dissemination of research findings.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: Knowledge of academia and industry-leading research and planning approaches and philosophies, software, and systems. Knowledge of simple and complex research methodology to assess internal and external academic research proposals for CBAS participation while evaluating risk, benefits, and privacy concerns.

Knowledge of research methodologies and statistical analysis techniques, literature review methodologies, and the ethical standards for conducting scientific research.

Knowledge of current/emerging trends in environmental scanning to conduct ongoing environmental scanning and develop benchmarks and good practices.

Ability to assess quantitative data and analyze qualitative data using a variety of statistical methods and analyses.

Interpersonal and oral and written communication skills to work collaboratively and cooperatively with program/operations managers and research partners resolving problems, coaching, and providing advice.

Ability to understand, articulate, and communicate complex concepts and issues using clear, concise, and easily understood terms of reference.

Planning, organizing, and coordinating skills to support and/or lead the development and completion of CBAS projects.
