Job Summary:
Porter Airlines is looking for a Product Specialist, Design Systems to play a key role in building, optimizing and evolving our design system and driving adoption through strategic partnerships with researchers, designers and front-end developers. Your system design expertise will be pivotal in our mission to deliver high-quality digital products and create cohesive end-to-end experiences across responsive web and native mobile platforms.

The day-to-day work will range from design audits, reviews, workshops, close collaboration with multiple disciplines, and actual hands-on design system work.

- You have experience in owning a living design system for complex products. A bonus point if you have built a design system and process from the ground up.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Design reusable, customizable and scalable UI components that meet A11Y standards, leverage variants, design tokens, and component properties and create and maintain foundational patterns.
- Create informative, engaging and user friendly documentation for the design system components to support adoption.
- Work closely with developers to ensure that components are built to spec and design, and code documentation generated is robust and intuitive.
- Work with production teams to ensure that components are being properly implemented.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions to familiarize team members with the design system’s components and best practices.
- Ensure the system delivers value to the end-users by understanding their needs and goals while simultaneously considering ease of use, performance, and accessibility.
- Work on continuous design system improvements through feedback from end-users and ensure that components in the DS library are useful,discoverable and compatible with the current workflows.
- Participate in design reviews to maintain a high standard for all Porter design system components and documentation.
- Provide thoughtful feedback, guidance, support, and encouragement to members of the design and development teams to drive adoption of the design system.
- Communicate professionally and purposefully with stakeholders across the organization to continuously improve UX adoption, support, and understanding.
- Exhibit flexibility in work with others.
- Define Design System KPIs to measure health and drive continuous improvement by evaluating and optimizing the user experience based on data, user feedback, and industry trends.
- Partner with the User Research team to understand users behavior, and gain insights from qualitative and quantitative data to create thoughtful experiences that meet both user & business needs.
- Groom and prioritize the backlog, maintain intake and support processes.
- Communicate announcements of upcoming changes.
- Regularly conduct design system audits to remove redundancy and improve design and speed up delivery processes and workflows.
- Act as a resource for Figma and UI design best practices.
- Promote a culture of innovation and teamwork.
- Serve as a mentor and help inspire the designers and developers to deliver digital products of the highest quality.
- Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy.
