Academic Advisor & Graduation Coordinator- staff
Part-time - Open until May 26th, 2023 - Starts: August 2023**The Position**:
The Academic Advisor & Graduation Coordinator role provides professional academic advising services to students. Academic advising services consist of meeting with incoming and returning students to assist them with choosing courses, planning their program, changing courses, and exploring options which fit with their academic and career goals and with the institution’s programs and policies.

**The AAGC is a P/T - 80% role**

**Responsibilities**:

- Meet with incoming students to assist them with choosing courses, planning their program, registering for courses, making course changes, etc. This is particularly important over the four months of the summer.
- Provide program planning advice to returning students to ensure that they meet program and graduation requirements and their own career/personal goals.
- Meet with current students for course registration during the spring registration period.
- Keep current on all changes to the university curriculum so that accurate information can be communicated from the Registrar’s Office to students and faculty.
- Conduct graduation audits in November, January, and May.
- Facilitate the graduation process, including: preparation of degrees and regalia, communication with graduates, organization of the ceremony.
- Serve as the administrative contact for Acadeum courses - review and approve courses, communicate with students, and facilitate the process for the Registrar’s Office.
- Balance the enrolment in labs and courses, as necessary.
- Help resolve course and program conflicts, as necessary.
- Assist the Registrar, as required.
- Serve on university committees as requested, such as the Teaching & Learning Committee.

**Preferred Skills and Attributes**:

- Superior skills in the provision of customer/student service.
- Professional skills required for advising - balancing responsibility to the student and institution, using confidentiality, diplomacy, approachability and accountability skills.
- Adherence to, and understanding of, professional advising standards as established by NACADA.
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn, the specific software used for course registration and management (Colleague, Self-Service, etc.).
- Ability to work cooperatively in a variety of settings, exercising tact, diplomacy and patience.
- Ability to preserve and maintain confidentiality of applicant and student data and records.
- Capacity to effectively create timelines and deadlines for projects involving several departments or individuals.
- Willingness to work on evenings and weekends if workload or events necessitate it (Graduation, Final Exams, Summer Course Reg Days).

**Education, Training & Certifications**:

- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
- 2-3 years Recruitment/Registrar’s Office experience preferred

**Other Requirements**:

- Commitment to Redeemer’s mission and the ability to articulate it effectively and persuasively.
- Familiarity with educational systems at both the secondary and post-secondary level.
