**Your Opportunity**:
Short to moderate term rehabilitation for those patients who require additional inpatient support is the focus on Unit 8-1A. Patients receive care from a multidisciplinary care team that works collaboratively with patients, Guardians, family and other stakeholders. Patients engage in recovery orientated care to support their growth and development towards a community transition that is best matched with their functional abilities. Further skill building and independent living skills development can be also targeted while on Unit 8-1A. Predominately patients access Unit 8-1A through Acute Care inpatient services within the Edmonton Zone once the acute phase of their illness is stabilized. Patients may be voluntary or involuntary under the Mental Health Act. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Psychiatric Aide is responsible for meeting the personal care needs and comforts of the patients. Duties will include assisting with the provision of routine nursing care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. They should be prepared to assist with organized activities/programs and observing patients’ mood, health, and well
- being. You will play a critical role in maintaining the safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while effectively communicating with patients and other health professionals.

**Description**:
As a Psychiatric Aide, you will perform activities within a multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. Your duties will includes assisting with the provision of routine nursing care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs; assisting with organized activities or programs; as well as observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. You will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of Grade 12. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Two years’ recent experience in Addictions and Mental Health setting. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Able to work effectively as a team and problem solve using critical thinking. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient acuity changes. Working knowledge of patient and family centered principles.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Health Care Aide certificate and Mental Health First Aid certificate. Vitals Training. Working knowledge of the CoAct model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care. Working knowledge of addictions/substance use disorders.
