**Job Purpose**
The Cost Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate monitoring, control, and reporting of project costs. This role focuses on reviewing cost-related documents, managing change orders, and providing vital cost backup to the Project Managers. The individual will ensure financial accuracy and transparency in the execution of projects, contributing to the overall efficiency and financial health of the organization.
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Perform cost reviews of projects, ensuring alignment with project budgets and identifying potential cost variances.
- Review project drawings, purchase orders (POs), and other project-related documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with project plans.
- Assist in managing change orders, ensuring proper documentation, approval, and tracking of costs associated with any project changes.
- Compile and prepare backup documentation for billing processes, ensuring all costs are properly substantiated and compliant with contractual terms.
- Provide support to Project Managers in cost tracking and reporting activities, offering recommendations for improvements when necessary.
- Monitor and control project costs, ensuring projects remain within budget and all variances are documented and explained.
- Assist in the preparation of regular cost control reports for senior management, highlighting any deviations and corrective actions.
- Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts, supporting the overall financial health and project success.
- Ensure timely and accurate updates of financial data in project management systems, maintaining financial integrity across all projects.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in all cost control activities.
- Display a commitment to uphold and convey the company’s values, culture, and internal vision to all employees.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (2+ years) in cost control, project finance, or a similar role within the construction or project management industry.
- Basic understanding of finance and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level) is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Relevant work experience is an asset including familiarity with programs such as;
- SAGE 300 ERP
- Bluebeam
- Knowledge of industry practices and standards in cost control is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
**Working Conditions**
The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.
**Physical Requirements**
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
