The RW ensures that the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the residents are met through appropriate implementation of organized programs. The RW works as a member of the Recreation team contributing to the operation of the service area as duties and responsibilities require. RW works under the supervision of the Recreation Therapist.

This position is for a recreation worker in a small home (of 24 residents) allowing you to take a person-centered approach to working with residents. The residents at this home are adults with disabilities and we have a robust recreation program. Programs and areas of focus relate to promoting independence, promoting meaningful relationships and social support and engaging residents in meaningful and quality recreation. Specific programs can range from community outings, to baking programs, to regular programs such as arts and crafts, games and chair yoga. We are hoping to find a recreation worker who is passionate about recreation and about working with our residents.

**Qualifications**:
A diploma or degree in recreation therapy with a minimum of two years’ experience;
OR an accepted recreation worker certificate with two or more year’s recreation program experience within a complex care setting is required.

**Job Skills and Abilities**:

- Must support and facilitate the mission, vision, and values at Residences for Independent Living Society.
- Must demonstrate concern and interest in providing quality care to adults with physical disabilities and be able to stimulate residents’ interest in relevant programs.
- Must work respectfully, creatively and in a cooperative manner with Recreation Therapist (supervisor), volunteers, and other employees.
- Experience in program facilitation and in program adaptation for a variety of ability levels. Should have experience or an understanding of task segmentation.
- Support resident-centered care
- Able to work independently, multi-task and follow up with tasks and requests for residents.
- Must have basic computer skills (MS Office).
- Must have effective communication skills both written and verbal.
- Must have Food Safe Level 1; and current First Aide/CPR.
- Must have or be able to obtain Class 4, unrestricted license within 3 months of commencement of position.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $28.74 per hour
