The Nanaimo Canoe & Kayak Club’s popular summer day camps offer children ages 6-12yrs the opportunity to experience the sport of canoe
- kayak in a fun, safe, and stimulating environment. The aim is to develop confidence on & off the water, all while benefiting the social, physical, and emotional wellbeing of the child. While the focus is water safety, teamwork, fundamental movements, and active healthy living, camp leaders provide participants with fun, fitness, friendship, and sport skill development in addition to recruitment opportunities into future Club programs.
**The NCKC is looking for youth aged 15-30yrs who enjoy working with children and are passionate about the outdoors, active healthy living, and water sports to assist with the delivery of its popular summer camp program. As part of the NCKC Leadership Team, the youth Camp Leaders are role models and work to achieve NCKC’s motto of “Building Paddlers for Life” by providing fun, safe, engaging activities on and off the water to the children in t heir care. Camp Leaders will have the opportunity to develop greater skills in leadership and teamwork, communication, customer service, childcare, program planning, and sport skills on the water.**
**CAMP LEADER**
Start-End Date: June 25 - September 2, 2023
Rate of Pay: $17.20 - $22/hour
Time: M-F daytime hours (occasional evenings and weekends)

**NCKC Camp Leader duties and responsibilities include**:
- implementing fun, safe, and engaging summer programs which includes cooperative games, sport skill development, and creating long lasting memories,
- working cooperatively with NCKC Leadership Team and NCKC Board of Directors,
- participating in games and demonstrating sport skills appropriate for the age and ability of campers,
- encouraging campers to try new things and supporting campers when necessary,
- communicating effectively with co-workers, campers, and parents,
- instructing campers on the care and proper use of Club equipment,
- adhering to NCKC & Safe Sport policies and Health & Safety procedures,
- demonstrating leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, fair play, respect, & equity,
- assisting with first aid situations,
- providing active supervision, recruitment opportunities for participants,
- assisting with written reports as necessary (incident, accident, first aid, timesheets, etc)
- exercising safe work practices to ensure the safety of self and others,
- assisting with the development and execution of lesson plans and/or weekly camp calendars,
- redirecting unsafe behaviours or actions,
- working co-operatively and collaboratively to support a positive work environment,
- supporting and enforcing camp rules for safety and fun,
- reporting any unsafe situations immediately to the Club Coordinator & Coach,
- attending and participating fully in all training and work-related opportunities.
**ABOUT THE NANAIMO CANOE & KAYAK CLUB**:
The Nanaimo Canoe & Kayak Club (NCKC) is a community based not-for-profit amateur sport organization located in Loudon Park on Long Lake in Nanaimo, BC. It provides entry-level to high performance canoe/kayak training to people of all ages and skills levels within the Central Vancouver Island region.
**NCKC Mission**: We believe that recreational and competitive sports are healthy ways of building mature and responsible citizens, developing leadership skills, providing social interaction, and promoting full participation in society.
**NCKC Purpose**: Our purpose is to provide structured programs, which offer leadership and encouragement in the development of physical and social skills, with the goal of participating in organized competition, as well as providing access to recreational paddling opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels.
**NCKC Objective**: To participate in Canoe Kayak Canada (CKC) and CanoeKayak BC (CKBC) activities and to promote and develop all forms of paddle sports, both competitive and recreational. To organize and sponsor competitions, regattas, and social opportunities consistent with involvement in flatwater canoeing and kayaking. To instill in our members the values inherent in good sportsmanship and good citizenship and to develop mature and positive self-esteem.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 10 weeks
**Salary**: $17.20-$22.00 per hour

- Monday to Friday
