The Radiation Protection Surveyor is responsible for the maintenance of site radiological hygiene including monitoring all aspects of the TRIUMF radiation environment and documenting the results. They assist functional groups in conducting their work and provide radiation-specific safety advice to all personnel. The incumbent assists in providing instruction and radiation protection training to staff who require it.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Conduct routine radiological hygiene monitoring including site walkthroughs and spot-checks for loose contamination
- Perform radiation surveys of high active areas on site
- Gather, assay, and record results of environmental sampling
- Assist in safely opening beamlines or radiation areas for others to work
- Provide radiation-related guidance, advice, and assistance to other service groups
- Sign off work permits
- Calibrate and verify the proper operation of radiation protection instrumentation
- Assist senior group members in providing radiation protection training
- Operate advanced radiation protection instrumentation and interpret data
- Configure, calibrate and maintain personnel dosimetric instrumentation
- Maintain Radiation Protection Group records, documentation, and procedures as required
- Assist members of the Waste Management Group in disposing of radioactive waste from the site

**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**:
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential to excel in this position. Basic knowledge of radiation protection and its associated quantities and units, principles of radiation dosimetry, and a general understanding of gamma spectroscopy and related electronics are required. Laboratory experience and a deeper understanding of radiation phenomena and its interaction with matter are considered assets.

You will be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE**:
Minimum qualifications include graduation from a relevant program at a technical college. In addition, this position requires experience working in a laboratory or similar environment for at least one year.

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
