**Overview**
The role of the Cafe Assistant / Barista is to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for all Customers, Participants, and staff. This involves preparing fresh food and drinks in a Café setting while maintaining a high standard of service and customer care with a friendly and polite attitude at all times.

The café assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Cafe including customer service, food preparation, receiving and stocking, and Café maintenance.

The café is a social enterprise and the Café assistant is also responsible for the implementation of person-focused services under the direction of the Instructor and Manager.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Customer Service**
- Ability to work with people considered to have an intellectual disability, while fostering good relations.
- Use effective customer care skills to ensure the well-being of customers at all times.
- Ensure and maintain good customer relations.
- Ensure high levels of safety and hygiene are maintained throughout the Cafe.
- Report any issues that could affect the smooth operations of the Cafe to the instructor.

**Food and Beverage Preparation**
- Prepare food and beverages in line with Food Hygiene, Health and Safety Standards.
- Ensure that food and beverage preparation is of high quality to meet customer expectations.
- Work with the Instructor to develop a menu.
- Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks to specified recipe standards.
- Prepare and serve muffins, pastries, sandwiches, and other foods as requested to recipe standards.
- Clean all equipment after use according to industry standards.

**Monitoring Stock**
- Receive and store stock, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Shelves/fridges should be fully stocked with items available and must be replenished throughout the day, particularly after peak times.
- Adhere to stock rotation at all times so that stock with the earliest sell-by date is at the front/on top of shelves.
- Report any stocks that are running low to the Instructor
- Discuss any requests or suggestions for new stock items with the team.

**Checks to Monitor**
- Take temperaturechecks of the freezers/fridges and record findings on the sheet. Any faults should be reported to the Instructor
- Staff should promptly inform their instructor or accountant if they are running low on change in the till.
- All staff should ensure accurate cash handling. Any issues should be reported to the instructor.

**Cleaning**:

- Prepare the cafe for opening and ensure that service and seating areas are cleaned before use.
- Maintain cleanliness to align with industry standards.
- Clean tables, chairs, worktops, and the floor after peak times to maintain a high level of cleanliness in the Cafe

**Personal Competencies and Qualities**:

- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen and in a similar customer-facing environment is preferred
- Knowledge and experience with excellent food preparation skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure with high customer traffic
- Taking initiative and working well independently
- Attention to detail while ensuring quality assurance
- Flexible and able to work well within a team
- Well-organized and able to prioritize tasks
- Trustworthy
- Willingness to assist with various tasks and adapt to change
- Experience in a similar customer-facing environment would be desirable
- cash handling experience

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
