Job Title: Maple Syrup Interpreter
Department: Engineering, Field Operations, and Education
Date: March 10th to April 2nd, 2023
Location: Purple Woods Conservation Area, 38 Coates Road East, Oshawa, Ontario (at Simcoe Street)

**SUMMARY**
This is a seasonal position, and you may be required to work all or some of the following dates: March 10, 11, 12, 15, 16,
17, 18, 19, 25, 26, April 1, and 2 during the annual Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival. **A mandatory half-day training and orientation session is planned for Saturday, March 4, 2023.**

The Interpreter is responsible for working at the Pioneer station at Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority’s annual
Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival. The Interpreter is responsible for describing the maple syrup story from Pioneer times when the European Settlers arrived in this area. This role requires a verbal presentation and demonstration of historical props to re-enact the history of maple syrup. Interpreters will also be required to assist with the daily set-up and take down of displays, contribute to general housekeeping duties and promote the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority as a lead agency in watershed protection and stewardship.

Interpreter will be provided with scripts to practice their presentation skills as part of a half day training and orientation session. They will also be required to complete a mandatory online health and safety and personnel training session. This position requires the individual to stand and work in an outdoor environment about 90% of the time.

Maple Syrup Interpreters report to the Education Instructor. The Festival’s hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The employee is expected to report for work at 9:00 a.m. and will work no later than 3:00 p.m.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
1) Excellent customer service and communication skills.
2) Theatre and acting experience is an asset.
3) Able to work in a fast paced environment.
4) Able to work alone or with a partner.
5) Fluent in English, a second language is an asset.

**Wage**:$15.50 per hour
