TITLE: Commercial Underwriter - Small Business

DEPARTMENT: Commercial Insurance

REPORTS TO: Manager, Commercial Insurance

STATUS: Contract, 12 months

We are looking for an extraordinarily passionate, self-motivated, and accomplished individual to join our Commercial team.

Furthermore, our unique commercial strategy is evolving, and our strategic focus must be advanced with skill and ease to foster the desired change for both the team and our Broker partners.

**Summary of Role & Responsibilities**:

- Provide technical underwriting expertise for Small Business property/casualty and IRCA automobile policies
- Analyze and evaluate results for your portfolio and use individual or collaborative judgment to ensure that profit and growth goals are met
- While working in a team environment, provide exceptional service to your assigned brokers in accordance to service standards with respect to new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, certificates etc.
- Assist with training and coaching of other staff as required
- Build strong inter-department relationships that encourage Unica’s corporate culture
- Communicate results, outstanding issues, industry trends and business opportunities to the Commercial management team
- Record underwriting information for the purpose of evaluation, assessment, audit and profitability
- Any other duties as required

**Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Attributes**:

- Technical knowledge and experience working in both property/casualty and automobile lines
- Knowledge of underwriting principles, concepts, and methodologies in a commercial environment
- Knowledge of commercial rates and pricing to effectively underwrite and attract target business
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Computer skills that enable independent management of a variety of programs
- Superior customer service and business acumen

**Education and Experience**:

- University / College degree
- CIP or CRM designation obtained or working towards one or both designations
- FCIP is an asset
- Minimum _2_ years of Commercial underwriting experience
