**Your role**
- CBC News is searching for a creative, energetic and driven leader to take on one of the most rewarding jobs in journalism: the role of Executive Producer at Power & Politics. We're searching for a skilled programmer with experience producing compelling political and breaking news coverage. We are looking for a leader driven to win in a competitive environment, a leader who thrives in developing breaking and original news and a leader skilled at directing and holding a dynamic team to high standards in a live news environment 12 months of the year.
- The Executive Producer of Power & Politics is responsible for conceiving, planning and overseeing two hours of daily political programming for CBC’s flagship politics show in Ottawa. These responsibilities are regularly extended to include elections, federal budgets and other special news projects including major breaking news events.

**Function**:
**Key Tasks**:
- Conceives and develops program ideas and concepts and drives programming and production for a two-hour daily (Monday to Friday) TV program, with occasional special extended programming.-
- Participates in the preparation of program objectives.-
- Develops the program and unit content, including assigning, researching, writing and/or editing and overseeing breaking news coverage.-
- Plans and organizes the components and/or segments of a program.-
- Plans, selects and requests, in collaboration with the Unit or Business Manager, the financial and production/resource requirements including the creative contributors and other participants, the material and facilities.-
- During program preparation, production and post-production, is responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority.-
- Is responsible for ensuring the program gets to air by delegating to or working with the Sr. Producer and control room Director.-
- Evaluates all facets of a production including the performance of program and production personnel.-
- Responsible for providing journalistic and production leadership.**As required, performs the following tasks**:
- Select, re-write and/or vet copy or text written by others.-
- Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the content.-
- Determine the order and importance of various elements of a story.-
- Assign, coordinate and supervise the work of personnel who contribute to the content or segment for which the Producer is responsible.-
- Identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment.-
- Oversee a digital strategy for Power & Politics to drive audience engagement and growth on online and social platforms.-
- Maintains communication with members of the audience, including managing feedback and responding to complaints.-
- A University degree or college diploma and seven years of comparable and relevant experience, which demonstrates proven ability in the field, and knowledge of the broadcasting industry.
- Experience in building and leading teams in the design and execution of top-flight news programming.
- Control room experience in taking news programming to air.
- Extensive knowledge of national and international political and policy news.
- Ability and experience in leading the activities of a large program unit.
- Ability and experience in live programming.
- A year-round ability to work within tight timelines, often in unexpected overtime situations for several days in a row.
- Ability to travel.
- A passion for strong journalism, critical thinking and innovative storytelling.
- Proven leadership and effectiveness in managing and motivating people.
- Creative problem solver.
- Able to communicate effectively and cooperatively.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills are required.
