**PURPOSE OF POSITION**:
To provide youth based prevention services to TteS Band Members through delivery of outreach, conflict resolution and peacekeeping initiatives.

The TteS Youth Prevention & Outreach Worker works directly with TteS youth to mediate, problem solve and address any issue which may have the potential to result in entering the judicial system or police contact. The prevention and outreach worker creates personal healing plans, creates outreach programming, arranges for services and supports clients to address their needs both through cultural means and modern programming.

Consistent communication with community, Chief and Council and local RCMP is needed to produce relevant preventative services for current concerns in the community. This can include such issues as drug use/awareness, domestic violence, alcohol, mental health, internal conflicts, self-harm/suicide, human trafficking, finance management, gang awareness, health, crime, police interactions and more.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Provides prevention services to TteS Band Members within the Secwépemc territory (95%)**

1.) Community Engagement
- Assist and facilitate community participation in developing services and programming
- Consult community on concerns in order to build relevant services and programming
- Consult community regarding implementing traditional and cultural ways of doing
- Consult a variety of groups, including youth, on prevention needs of the community

2.) Prevention & Outreach
- Develop and maintain programming that reflects traditional customs and practices of the Secwepemc as directed
- Host events (workshops, seminars, meetings, forums etc.) in order to address prevention concerns
- Plan and organize events, as well as facilitate external resources to present in community
- Work one on one with clients to assess needs
- Develop culturally sensitive diversion and deterrence methods/programming
- Develop and implement harm reduction strategies and programming
- Develop and implement constructive strategies for handling diversion and deterrence
- Work with other Community Service teams and positions within TteS to provide holistic approach for clients

3.) Alternative Measures
- Work with client, RCMP and Courts to implement alternative measures for first time offenders
- Create healing plans and culturally appropriate alternative measures
- Monitor client and execute reporting as per court orders
- Facilitate and monitor community/volunteer work as required

4.) Conflict Resolution & Mediation
- Work with members/parties to address conflicts in a healthy and traditional way
- Identify and implement strategic methods to address any conflicts which may lead a member to come into contact with the justice system or police contact
- Assist in mediating conflict

5.) Reporting
- Provide regular activity reports to Justice Services Manager
- Provide evaluations and feedback regarding community events, services and programs conducted
- Attend all meetings of the Community Services Department as directed
- Provide information as requested by external agencies

6.) Referrals
- Liaise with outside agencies in order to obtain services for clients, as needed (may include mental health, addictions, health, financial, parenting, anger management services, etc.)
- Liaise with internal teams in order to obtain services for clients as needed (may include family support, Mental Health & Addictions, Wellness, Education, etc.)

7.) Community Services Administration
- Attend all meetings of the Community Services Department as directed
- Provides briefing notes, memorandums regarding prevention and outreach issues related to TteS as requested

8.) Training
- Develop cultural awareness training program
- Facilitate training program to agencies as required/requested
- Attend training as required/requested by Justice Services Manager

**All other related duties as assigned (5%)**

**Professional Certification, Education and Experience**:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Criminal Justice, Social Work, Harm Reduction, Restorative Justice) or 5+ years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or training
- Experience in outreach, prevention and/or working in First Nations communities
- Mental health and wellbeing experience considered an asset
- Conflict resolution and/or mediation experience considered an asset
- Must have current valid Class 5 driver’s license and own reliable transportation
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check—Vulnerable Sector

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Proven ability to work in First Nations community
- Good knowledg
