Youth Recreational

Work cooperatively with the staff of The Willows Family Life Centre to promote holistic care for families within the Langley - Cloverdale community. Engage with program participants in ways that represent our values of dignity, service, stewardship, and hope. Work with a team of staff and volunteers led by the Youth Recreation and Leisure Coordinator to implement a summer day camp enrichment program at the Willows Family Life Centre. Day Camp weeks will include specialized programming for kindergarten children, elementary children, and youth. Build relationships with and provide competent supervision to at-risk and neurodivergent children & youth.

**Hours**:

- Contract - 37.5 hours per week for 8 weeks
- July 3 to August 25, 2023

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordinate our day camp staff and volunteers, delegating responsibilities as needed
- Facilitate the registration process and communicate to parents ahead of upcoming camp attendance, answering any questions they may have
- Plan and lead both the creative team and the recreational team to plan and schedule weekly themed artistic and active sports and recreational components for each day camp experience
- Oversee opening and closing of the facility, including set up and cleanup of activities, both indoor and outdoor
- Collect fees, get permission slips signed
- Lead daily debriefing meetings for camp staff to help with the integration of activities at the Centre, creative problem solving, and promote great teamwork
- Participate in weekly debriefing meetings with the full Willows Family Life Centre staff
- Prepare materials, like photos and stories, to include in impact reports and follow-up postcards with campers at the end of the summer
- Facilitate the daily registration process, sign in and sign out daily attendance of campers
- Set up and implement daily program schedule
- Purchase and preparation of supplies
- Manage the indoor / outdoor environment to assure appropriate health and safety requirements are met
- Interact with parents, coach children, and communication with teammates is required throughout
- Deal with behavioural concerns of children and youth if they arise during program participation at day camp in conjunction with the Counsellors

**Canada Summer Job Eligibility**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period ;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Education/Certifications**:

- The successful job applicant will need to be currently enrolled in high school or at a post-secondary education institution

**Experience/Skills**:

- Teamwork - the skills needed to interact with other people, work with others in pairs and in small and large groups to coordinate tasks, share resources, plan, make decisions, negotiate, solve conflicts, and complete other activities that involve teamwork.
- Communication - the skills needed to exchange thoughts and information with other people, orally by speaking, listening, and using non-verbal cues, such as body language or in writing.
- Leadership - the skills needed for communication, relationship building, and the ability to delegate. Traits such as honesty, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks are developing.
- Knowledge of child development and ways to engaging neurodiverse learners in a range of activities and environments
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
