- party sites, will not be considered**_**The Forensic Identification Unit function impacts all members of the service, other agencies, and the public. It contributes to the integrity and effectiveness of the service in its management of files, forms, and correspondence in accordance with relevant legislation and policy and procedure. The Forensic Identification Technician provides vital support within the FIU (Forensic Identification Unit) by performing essential criminal record maintenance, obtaining fingerprints, and ensuring criminal charge dispositions are accurate and current within the court system and the National Fingerprinting Repository.

- This _**_permanent full-time position_**_ falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge._

**Wage: $35.32 per hour |2022 Job Rate (Wage under Review).
**Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week**

**As the Forensic Identification Technician you will**:

- Track all charges related to fingerprints that are taken and follow each case through the court system and ensure all information is accurately entered on the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) internal records system (NICHE) and into CJIM (Canadian Justice Information Manager) so that the dispositions can be correctly documented on a person’s criminal record in a timely manner.
- Review the Lethbridge Courthouse daily docket list of accused persons scheduled for court and report back to the Crown Prosecutors office if fingerprinting is required for each person scheduled to appear.
- Track warrants and ensure records and fingerprints related to the warrants are recorded.
- File fingerprint records related to adult criminal records, youth criminal records and pardons in accordance with LPS and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) policies.
- Track missed/pending fingerprinting tasks and provide information to the FIU supervisor to determine trends in service deficiencies so that quality assurance is maintained.
- Assist in tracking court orders that come into the FIU that require the collection of DNA samples.
- Develop relationships and contact base within the court system, other police agencies and with the Ottawa National Repository
- This position is responsible for fingerprinting members of the public charged with a criminal offence and have been released to attend the police station to have their prints taken.
- Liaise with other police services to ensure charged persons can be processed in other jurisdictions when needed and to provide a reciprocal arrangement
- Utilize LIVESCAN (electronic fingerprinting) and CARDSCAN (traditional ink) to fingerprint charged individuals in custody or those scheduled to attend for fingerprinting
- Required to track tasks that have been sent by investigators requesting fingerprinting and to ensure quality control and that criteria to process a fail to appear charge is met.
- Ensure charges that are brought forward are also processed through the RMS court liaison unit to meet court deadlines.
- Perform other related duties as required
- High School Diploma or equivalency is required
- Post-Secondary education in a relevant field would be considered an asset
- Significant work experience performing complex administrative and technical work where a high level of attention to detail was required
- At least one year of previous work experience with Police Records Management or similar work experience within a law enforcement agency is required
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to handle very difficult individuals.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated the ability to present information in an appropriate manner.
- Expert attention to detail and discernment skills are required
- Knowledge on policies and procedures of CPIC and the National Criminal Record repository is preferred
- Proficient Computer skills including word processing, data navigation, extraction and formatting using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required.
- Thorough knowledge of Law Enforcement Database and Operating system experience such as NICHE, CPIC, LIVESCAN, CARDSCAN, JOIN, ORCA is preferred
- Knowledge of the Identification of Criminals Act, Criminal Code, Provincial Statues, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Knowledge of Court processes
- Ability to work in a confidential environment
- Ability to multi-task and have good organizational skills
